
ommie Agee was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1966 with the Chicago White Sox batting .273 and hitting 22 home runs. As a member of the White Sox, he was named to the American League All-Star Team in 1966 and 1967. He started his professional baseball career in 1961 and played in the minors with brief stints with the Cleveland Indians and White Sox until 1966. Tommie went to the New York Mets in 1968 and formed the one-two punch with Cleon Jones in 1969 to lead the Miracle Mets to the World Series championship. He batted .271 that season and led the team in home runs with 26, and RBIs with 76. Tommie also led the team in runs scored with 97. In the Mets’ 5-0 victory in the third game of the 1969 World Series, Tommie made two electrifying catches that rank with the greatest in classic history. Those catches saved five runs. Because of his outstanding career, Tommie was inducted in the Mobile Hall of Fame and the Alabama Hall of Fame in Birmingham
Tommie was an outstanding athlete in high school and at Grambling College where he excelled in football. In high school he pitched and played shortstop in baseball, played football, forward in basketball, and was 9.7 dash-man in track.
